Former Nolita-locals, Hanna and Alex were visiting NYC from London when Alex surprised Hanna and popped the question by the Hudson River. With only one day left in their trip, H&A reached out to book a spontaneous engagement shoot in the place where their love story began.

After some text exchanges, a joint moodboard, and a little under 12 hours to prep, we had a clear idea of the vibe we were after. H&A asked for a mix of documentary and editorial styles photos with a film-inspired look, and I knew my Fujifilm would be perfect for this—offering the grainy, soft look of film with the flexibility (and safety) of digital.

The next day, we set out in the West Village with a modest shot list that gave us a enough framework to structure our shoot with plenty of room to be inspired in the moment. As we wandered around, I was able to document H&A in their element, capturing every emotion, sweet to silly. Here are some of my favorite photos from that day.
